RINA expanded its digital offerings with the acquisition of Logimatic Solutions, now renamed RINA Digital Solutions. Its flagship product, SERTICA, is a powerful fleet management solution, which integrates a wide range of functions, modules, and features for all areas of maritime business, incorporating fleet maintenance, procurement management and HSQE modules to provide deeper insights into fleet operations, enabling effective monitoring, control and cost savings.
Promoting the use of Fuel Cells, which can be used together with unconventional fuels (LNG, Methanol, Hydrogen) as part of the energy transition, studies and testing were carried out with various EU and US Makers to define testing protocols for type approval and product certification.
Solutions for cruise ship distributed power generation (e.g., in ships’ Main Vertical Zones) based on methanol solutions for the supply of the relevant fuel cells have been approved. Some applications will be ready in 2022 for possible installation on board.
Decarbonization is a critical issue, not only for the shipping industry but for all sectors throughout the world.
To facilitate sharing of practical ideas for decarbonization, we launched four International Decarbonization Committees, based in Greece, Northern Europe, Asia and Italy. These committees are formed of representatives from more than 150 companies worldwide, including shipowners, technical managers, shipyards, designers, manufacturers, fuel suppliers and charterers. Discussion areas include identification of alternative fuels, increased fleet efficiency, and operational measures that optimize fuel usage. We have already identified practical technology and fuels that can be used today to meet the ambitious IMO 2050 targets.
Of course, decarbonization goes hand-in-hand with digitalisation, which is a vital tool for ship optimisation and one that has been proven to decrease carbon footprint today. During the year we continued to add new features to our fleet optimisation tool, “Optimum”, and to our Electronic LogBook (ELB), which not only reduces the risk of mistakes and increases compliance, but also provides the data needed to suggest improvements to ship operations.
RINA has a focus on delivering excellence
and value to the shipping industry. We will continue to enlarge our portfolio
of services and will look for further acquisitions to support our progress.
Overall, in line with our mantra of simplifying complex problems, we will
continue to strive to add value and deliver the practical solutions we need to
make shipping more sustainable and to help the industry achieve its
decarbonization targets.
During 2021, 1.4 million GT of deliveries were supervised by RINA.
